An apprenticeship is a government-backed programme where employees simultaneously learn and gain experience, all while working towards your business goals.
They will have dedicated time during working hours (up to 6 hours per week spread over the length of their training) to focus on the learning aspect of their apprenticeship, either by attending lectures or workshops led by the university training provider. The rest of their time will be spent under the usual direction of you, their employer.
With your and the instructor's support, your learners will apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to their day-to-day role. By the end of an apprenticeship, they'll have the right skills and knowledge needed for the next step in their career, and the ability to transform aspects of your business.
It takes one to six years to complete an apprenticeship depending on which pathway is chosen, as well as their previous work experience and level of education. The apprenticeship journey is supported by you as their employer, fellow students, the university team, and EdAid. Reach out to the team via our form to find out more.
Partaking in an apprenticeship is completely free for the learner. Apprenticeships are funded by the UK Government apprenticeships scheme. If you are a small business then you may need to make a small contribution towards the overall training costs.
Full-time apprentices must engage in a minimum of six hours off-the-job training per week, or an average of 20% of their normal working hours. It’s up to you and the training provider where these hours are to be delivered throughout the duration of their apprenticeship.
